I just talked to the Executive Director from Girls on the Run. GOTR is a program which teaches girls from 3rd-8th grade that helps build self esteem. "Our program combines training for a one-mile or 5K running race with uplifting workouts that encourage emotional, social, mental and physical development. We are not a typical track program as our curriculum contains 20 fun, active lessons dealing with issues such as drugs and alcohol, media images, gossiping, physical health, emotional health, cooperation and community. At the end of the 10-weeks the girls complete their first ever one-mile or 5K distance." I found out about the program when I was at the gym one night. I think the idea of training young girls how to exercise and build self-esteem at the same time is awesome. I've always loved to excersize but always felt too self-conscious to do it.. and then I felt bad about myself because of my weight and laziness. GO FIGURE. So anyway, Joanne, their E.D. really wants me to run in the NIKE MARATHON as a sponsor for them, and I think I'm gonna do it. It's a 26.3 mile maraton, or I can do the 13 Mile Half Marathon, but I think I wanna try for the full. You pay $50 and that registers you for the race, and then you are asked to raise a minimum of $750. I'm nervous about raising the money, cuz.. THATS A FREAKIN LOT. But I think I could do it. Anyway, I'd be training on sunday mornings. I think it'd be AWESOME.
If any of you would be interested in donating, please let me know. Or, better yet, if any of you want to run with me, DO IT!
<3 me!
p.s. I'm gonna try and convince brian to run with me. Or race me. Whichever. Maybe rory's dad will run too!
... I miss rory.
