Merry Christmas!!!
Yes, I did wait until midnight or so to post that.
Christmas with Jess and her family was awesome. It was cooking, dinner, lights, and lots of other good stuff.
Alrighty, now for a complete change of topic.
In the Silmarillion the story that seems to stand out the most or is the one most mentioned outside it is the story of Beren and Luthien. It's a story of love and all that crap, but they live happily everafter. Another love story in the Sil stuck out a whole lot more to me, though. The story of Hurin and Morwen. After the a battle in which Hurin is captured by Morgoth's army he is held in Angband, Morgoth's stronghold, for 23 years (I think, a long time). And, while he's held captive his son and daughter die (both by killing themselves in grief). Then, after he's finally let out he meets up with his wife at the grave of his son and daughter (eventhough she's not buried there because she jumped into a river). Anyway, him and his wife sit at the stone after being reunited and then she dies the next morning.
It's such a sad story (a whole lot also goes on with his sone Turin). It just stuck out more to me than the story of Beren and Luthien. Although, Beren did get his hand bit off while he was holding a Silmaril...yeah, yeah he did.
And, on the subject of the Sil, I have one more comment.
How in the Great Guns of Navarone could the Dwarves destory Doriath?!?!?! Seriously! Dwarves?!?!
