the ground

i awoke it was dark we had slept all day outside the clouds rumbled as i studied your face in the rain in the woods we laugh and we know that these warm lazy bodies are only our ghosts and the wet leaves stick to our dirty feet and i pull your body close in the mess of your sheets and i chew your face to the bone and you say "careful boy, take it slow," and i said "im sorry girl because i dont want it to hurt" as i wrapped my arms around your girth you know your eyes are the color of words and your embrace is like being cased in dirt and my rottng flesh is seared by the probing roots of trees and then the worms come in twos then in threes and their slimy bodies slide inside of me.
