ANNOUNCEMENT | on DreamWidth and moving

Jan 03, 2012 12:09

We as moderators have made the decision to move to Dreamwidth. As it currently stands, I am in the process of manually moving all of our bare bones- pertinent information over to this new site. It is being reworked a bit and being updated. What does this mean?

The following are changes that will be occurring and things that are happening once we have moved:

➲ There will be an in-game reset. For more information about in-game resets (you keep your memories, your CR, everything; the game just restarts from the very beginning, as it would in the normal progression) see the FAQ.

➲ At the start of the reset, characters will be placed into wagon assignments with one another. This will also be further detailed in a plot post when the time occurs.

➲ All existing players whose characters are on hiatus or who respond to an upcoming post will remain in-game. Since our participation right now is about twenty players to the large mass of journals actually in the community, it would be easier to do a half-activity check by just gauging the interest of those who still wish to remain in-game and which characters they will be bringing over to the DreamWidth game. More details about this will come in a new post.

➲ The game will be accepting original characters. Partially in a bid to bring in more meat, and also because allowing original characters in panfandom games is becoming a much larger scale occurrence. Also, there are many players who would like to bring OCs to DreamWidth games, as well as some who have expressed interest in doing so at The Oregon Trail. More details will follow, as a separate applications process will be written for those characters and provided in our new applications page.

➲ During the move, you are of course encouraged to continue to play here on LiveJournal. While I will not be importing the communities (as I would have to pay for them, and then wait much longer than it would take me to manually get our bare bones over to DreamWidth), all of our events will stand that have occurred here at LiveJournal.

➲ If you would like to see the progress of my moving of things, or you would like to bookmark them, the communities over on Dreamwidth are as follows:
Main Community
Logs Community
OOC Community
Spam Community

➲ Any questions? Please definitely let me know here, and I will get back to you as soon as I am able!

When the move is completed, I will post an entry in each journal confirming the move to DreamWidth, and there will be a mod plot post in the main journal there that will detail the events of the reset and the wagon assignments that are the product of that reset.

Now, I understand that we may lose players in our move to another journalling site. I feel that the move to DreamWidth is beneficial to the game in a variety of ways. It is an opportunity to reset some old coding and older graphical interfaces, as well as an opportunity to give us a good head-start in a slightly new direction. I have seen what people want the most out of their games, and I would like to bring that to this game over at DreamWidth. It is also important to note that quite a lot of active role playing has moved to DreamWidth, and the direction that LiveJournal is taking with their website is not one that is beneficial to us as players.

In short, it's now or never. This is the best opportunity to give us a chance to jump at this with a powerful head-start into something really great, and I would love to try my best to do that -- both for the players of this game and prospective new players to the game.

Thank you to everyone who has played here, both in 2009 and now; should you choose to stay or choose to go, I hope you had fun and I hope that you can bring awesome memories of this game with you wherever you ultimately desire.

Much love and appreciation,
Haley
