I am going to be upfront and honest with everyone here. I have been mulling this over for weeks, fretting every day. And, really, that's just not fair. Without further ado, these are the two options we're looking at:
On LiveJournal:
I write up a formal announcement and I close the game. Unfortunately, as we are, even the changes I'd like to make will not bring in new players. Most of the players have dissipated, unfortunately, and the rest of them are taking their role playing to DreamWidth.
On DreamWidth:
We reformat the game, and we move to DreamWidth. This is what will happen, since this is our most viable option to breathe one last breath of life into this game:
➷ I will complete an Activity Check for the month of December, and all players who are no longer active or in the game will be dropped.
➷ We will recreate the game over at DreamWidth from a moderator's side with a bit of newer HTML, some nicer graphics, some friendlier layouts. Updated learning materials (premise will be even more explicit, etc).
➷ Existing players would not have to re-apply.
➷ OCs will be an option. This is tentative, but I have only had good feedback about it so far.
➷ I will not be importing the community over to DW. However, all progress in the game still stands, of course. With that said;
➷ The game will experience an in-game reset, which will be noted with a mod plot post to start us off over there. It would be the same in-game reset that would occur in the game over here.
➷ After this reset, characters will be assigned wagons with other characters randomly and will be made to "start off" on the trail again, in the same way they would in two months' time on LiveJournal.
This move would give us the opportunity to: redo HTML we wanted to redo, do an in-game reset, and kick off the wagon assignments with existing players and potential new players alike. I feel like, from this perspective, it would be in the best interest of the game.
Thank you for sticking this out with me and the rest of us, and I hope you had a good holiday season and a happy New Year while I work on truly sorting this all out.
Questions, comments, and concerns are all welcome on this post. Hopefully this time, LJ will even notify me about them!
Thank you again.
