Open - Rose: Do the fever thing. [I'll match whatever format you use] sarcasticseer December 1 2011, 03:40:38 UTC
Rose had been feeling stranger and stranger as the day went on, though she couldn't place why, and now that evening had set in she was reasonably certain she was getting sick. Not that she was willing to admit it, because she's made such a big deal to Kanaya about the need to not get sick, that being sick just made her feel like an idiot ( ... )

With the recent spike in snake population, John wasn't about to set foot on the ground if he could help it. Which meant that he was floating just about everywhere he went, and that suited him just fine; flying was incredibly fun, and he'd take any excuse to do it. Heck, once He'd been following a particularly active little guy for a while, watching it as it slithered around a wagon and toward--

"Rose!"

He hit the ground in a gust of air, blowing away the nearest of the vermin. It didn't take a genius to tell that something was wrong, but it was even worse up close. Under better circumstances, John would have been excited to see Rose now that she wasn't in the black death trance of the woegothics, or whatever it was that had made their first meeting such a strange one. He might have even been a little embarrassed, given their last conversation. But that would have to wait; for now, all he knew was that Rose looked bad, and she needed help.

"Oh, geez, what happened?"

Rose was usually acutely aware of what was going on around her, and yet she didn't realize the snake was near her until she felt the sudden gust of wind that sent it hurdling away. Her eyes went a bit wide as she watched it flying off, and she wobbled as she pushed off the wagon for a moment to peer after it as John landed. Oh. That explained it ( ... )

He wanted to return the smile, as brief as it was, but that glow had him worried. Once she was better, he'd have to remember to give her a hard time about that, though he knew a little talking-to wouldn't be enough to convince her to Say No To Dark Magic. Rose was just stubborn that way--even it came to being sick, apparently. If she was trying to convince him by downplaying her illness, then it had the opposite effect. He knew that had to be an understatement, which meant she was probably feeling pretty terrible ( ... )

"Mmm," another vaguely annoyed noise as John crouched down near her, and she tried to push herself to her feet without his help, which completely failed. "It's not...that bad," she said, though even she was having trouble believing that at this point.

She tried to push away from him as he helped her stand, though she really couldn't manage it, and after a few seconds just slumped, though her eyes were open and frustrated. "You shouldn't. If I'm sick with some eighteenth century death plague you'll catch it too." She paused, turning her gaze up at him slightly. "If you can even get sick."

She had no idea how being god tier actually worked.

"I can walk." She said through clenched teeth then, letting her head drop back down even as she leaned against him. And yes, that was pretty much a lie.

Honestly, he'd be worried if she didn't try to resist the help. At least now he knew Rose wasn't too sick to keep being...well, Rose. Asking was more of a formality than anything else; he knew better than to actually let her try. He held fast to her, firmly but not tightly, until she relaxed ( ... )

"wait wh-" Before Rose had time to register John's terrible humor as being something other than terrible humor, they were in the air, and she grabbed at him in surprise. Flying on her own was one thing, flying under someone else's power was entirely different. Rose wasn't very good at relinquishing control, and in a way this was about as complete a loss as she could manage.

She wasn't thrilled.

But the rational part of her was going to point out that she was sick enough that she could barely stand, so flying wouldn't have been a good idea on her own, and the thought of walking very far was...unsettling.

"You're hilarious," she finally managed to deadpan as she gave in and just held on, closing her eyes so as not to look at the ground, no matter how close it was.

He knew Rose wouldn't like the help, and usually that was okay. Sure, it could be frustrating when she refused to let anyone in, but he trusted her judgement, so on most counts he was pretty content to stand back and let her do things on her own. This time, though, she was clearly in no condition to make it far without a helping hand, and he wouldn't take no for an answer ( ... )

Rose had the strangest urge to hit John as they were coming around his wagon and he insisted on being clever. She didn't want clever right now, all she wanted was to stop feeling awful and possibly to sleep for several days. Not that she was going to admit that with the chaos going on around them, of course.

She just sort of glared at him as he sat them both down, carefully disentangling herself now that the fear of falling was gone. If she'd been glowing, the glare probably would've been impressive, even terrifying, but in a sheen of fever-sweat and barely able to keep herself propped up, it was a rather sad attempt at angriness.

"I didn't know you were a doctor now, John." She finally managed, using the edge of his wagon to sit up a bit straighter while trying to grasp at whatever dignity she had left. "Although I'm not sure 'comedic medicine' is something I want to indulge in. Perhaps we should try actual medication and I-" She trailed off at a wave of dizziness and then made a faint noise of irritation.

"I hate this."
