When Franziska had first noticed that some of the wagons were starting to head off in the direction of the Trail, she had ultimately decided that she would not follow. What was the point of travelling somewhere where the conditions were harsher and unknown when she was reasonably safe here in Independence, and could wait for the game to end, to wake up from this dream, for reality to fix itself -- whatever the reason was. So, she simply went to bed in a warm, cozy inn bed the night the wagons first started leaving...but when she woke up, she was somewhere entirely differently.

The first clue she had that something was horribly wrong was that the surface she was lying on was moving, as though her bed had sprouted legs and decided to bounce, not walk, away as quickly as it possibly could. The movement caused her to jolt awake, bumping her head against a wall that she was sure hadn't been so close to her pillow before she had gone to sleep. Muttering under her breath as she rubbed the injured spot on her head, she sat properly upright, trying to examine her surroundings. Was she... was in the back of a wagon, with other people? How had she come to be here; had they snuck into her room somehow in the middle of the night, lifted her out of bed and carried her aboard?

She reached out next to her, and thankfully, her whip was still there. She held it tersely in her hands, a ferocious scowl on her face. It was time to start asking questions.

He awakened with a massive headache which wasn't unusually for himself. The fact that the wagon was moving didn't bother him; maybe Akihiko decided it was time to go and just left him to sleep in the wagon. After buying all the supplies someone had to make sure they didn't get taken. Fucking wagon... covered his ass. The sides were still big enough for several people to hop in and steal everything.

Shinjiro scratched his head, brushing his hair back before pulling on his beanie with a grumble. Slipping on his jacket, he paused, noticing he was not alone back here. There were three(?) kids back here... were they kids? Akihiko was... okay, he wasn't driving. Where the hell was he? Trying to locate his friend only made him notice the final occupant.

... Well, shi-- wait, what was she holding?

She notices another person shuffle awake, and even though the lighting conditions inside the wagon are not at their brightest, she recognizes him, that's the frightening thing. Well, it's frightening for the barest of seconds before it simply infuriates her instead. Nostrils flaring, she regrets that there isn't enough room inside to lash out at this boy like he probably deserves, but she instead lunges at him to at least -- at least try and grab him or something before he can do anything else to her.

When she speaks, her voice is a low, angry snarl, her eyes slitted. "I should have known someone like you would have something to do with this."

He has to catch her before she grabs him and leer back at her darkly.

"Look, I didn't do shit, okay? Yea, I was sleeping in the wagon last night, but that's all. Do you really think I'd bring your ass in here on purpose?"

Their first conversation had gone all but spectacularly. She was one of those uptight girls he just found irritating. Didn't help that she seemed to be connected to the law somehow. He could only think of who might decide no person left behind... where was Akihiko?

Annoyed that he manages to catch her before she's able to reach him, she violently attempts to wrench herself from his grip, mirroring his expression as accurately as she's able. "Let me go! What proper reason could you have for -- for abducting me in such a manner?!"

His grip is very firm; she won't get away that easily, but that's only because her words riled him slightly.

"I didn't 'abduct' you. I can hardly stand you..."

Once it becomes obvious to her that she won't be able to overpower him without utilizing underhanded tactics, she stops struggling as much because she doesn't want to appear weak, and also because her life doesn't seem to be in immediate danger. There's something about this teenager's general presentation that makes her think that he's incredibly apathetic -- that he couldn't be bothered killing her even if he wanted to. Then again, judging solely on appearances was a risky business. What if this is all an act?

"Then please. Expand on your explanation -- just how did I come to be here in your wagon? I assure you, the feeling is entirely mutual!"

He wasn't sure about letting he go just yet. He didn't need to start explaining only to be hit and she had been putting up a decent fight. It wouldn't hurt that much, but waking up and getting smacked did not make for a better morning. Slowly, he uncurled his fingers from her wrist and lowered his hand.

"I don't know. Yea, I prepped this wagon, but that's only because I can't fucking leave. I tried leaving Independence before and ended up walking around in a damn circle. Whatever isn't letting us leave must've forced everyone to get into random wagons."

Because he's always stuck with the domineering women. Yea God, that feeling is mutual.

There were several important facts to take from the information that this brat had just told her, and she did not hesitate to process it despite her frustration. This boy too had, apparently, tried to avoid their plotted journey to Oregon and had found himself only heading back in the direction he had come from. Secondly, this plotted journey or whatever it was... this was just the beginning.

"So, this, she started, eyes rolling skyward in defiance, "this is just part of the game, the story, the magic, is that what it is?"

"Glad you're starting to catch on."

Not really. The sooner she left him alone was the sooner he could go lay down again. His head was pounding and not in rhythm to those hoof beats outside on the permafrost. Huh... a game was one way to look at it. Nope, he still doesn't care at this time.

Franziska slumped back. Her posture would make her look defeated if it weren't for the anger in her eyes. "I don't want to be here."

"I don't think anyone wants to be here willingly..."

Though, he wasn't sure. This game theory she had...

"Someone or something wants us to be here. That much is very clear." She turned her head to look over her shoulder; she could still see some of the sleeping forms of their companions this way.

"When is this wagon going to stop?!"

"Better get use to it. The more stops we make, the longer it'll take us to get this over with."

She was going to wake us those sleeping forms. If he gets blamed for that too... well, god dammit.

She just raised an eyebrow at him. "How much do you know about American history?"

"... Enough. Why?"

It was covered in Junior High and he caught a bit in High School before ditching.
