Still, he took it and nodded. He leaned down and took up the small box of powder and the scoop-- a powder measure-- with it. "Use this," the powder measure, "to get the right amount of powder. It will always vary a bit, but that is not something to worry too much about. Just make sure it's mostly full, and it will answer."
He raised the powder measure and tilted it to pour it into the barrel of the rifle. "If a little falls out, don't mind it, but do be careful not to lose too much." He then took up a piece of cloth, dipping it into a bucket of water nearby before wringing it out to be just damp. "In fast action, you might only use saliva to wet it." He placed the cloth over the barrel of the gun and carefully put one of the lead ball bullets on top of it. He pressed it down with one finger, pushing it in far enough to cut the excess padding material.
"Your ramrod," he picked up the piece of metal and pushed against the started ball with it, "takes the load down the rest of the way. Only-- only put the ball in just before you are ready to fire."
He offered the gun back toward her, muzzle carefully pointed toward the tree as he pulled back a part of the gun. "This is the hammer. Pull it back and then take this," he held up the priming horn, "and put some of its powder-- priming-- here." He touched it to the priming pan.
"Now, the hard part," as if all that was simple, "is aiming. The gun will recoil, so you must allot for that. Every gun might be a bit different, so... Try aiming and firing at the tree." He stood, ready to correct posture and hold on the gun if he had to.

She nodded as she took the gun from him, easily holding it in the proper position, at least that part was mostly the same. "Okay, here it goes!"
She fires and hits the tree, bullseye. The recoil is stronger than what she's used to and she stumbles slightly, but manages to keep her grip on the gun.
"Hehehe, not bad!"
