This was the 47th pale pink human she had seen as she stalked around the camp. She made a little tick in her book. Yes, forty seven.

"It's not okay, is it? This isn't Alternia." She mumbled under her breath and took a seat opposite the human. Don't be alarmed by the grey troll with wild hair, horns, strange eyes, and a book in her lap.

"Where are we?"

"Another A name..."

She shook her head and leaned back a little to look up at the- ah. Right. Another alien. Sure, that made sense. Why had she ever signed up for that job again?

"Is Missouri too specific?"

Disciple sounded the word out, "Me zer i", and wrote it down. She contemplated it and shook her head.

"It doesn't really help, but thank you anyways. Have you heard of anyone else from Alternia or just that other A place you mentioned?"

"No-ope."

She looks at the pad of paper, then back up at the alien's face, and decides the rest of the insanity can wait.

"Is this the census?"

Annie had settled herself on the bottom step leading up to a building that seemed to specialize in selling parts for wagons. (Wainwright, supplied the part of her brain that still remember things like that from back when she was the Grade 6 Spelling Bee champ of her school.) This was all fundamentally weirder than the last time she'd visited Wild West town.

"Tell me about it," she said, tucking her knees up to her chest so that she could drop her chin down on it. "I had things to do today, and most of them didn't involve waking up in 1850."

Darcy fell backwards a bit, supporting herself on her elbows as she craned to find the source of the voice. A human girl, maybe even around her own age. Somehow, the normalcy felt a little strange compared to the rest of it. Great, now even the mundane was being infected by the weird.

"Uh-huh. I was going to catch up on a month of sleep today. I can't even get a GPS signal in this time period."

Annie had only recently transitioned into worrying about where she was particularly, having been more preoccupied up until this point with worrying about how she ended up here. She holds up her wrist near her ear and gives it a shake, like she's hoping that'll achieve something useful.

"These things look like they should come with a map or something," she said. "Or something to tell us what time period we're in. There's gotta be an app for that, right?"

"It doesn't even have angry birds."

And she spoke her language. Nice. Darcy shoved off the ground to make her way over with a helpless shrug.

"I'm Darcy. Hey."
