WHO: Yosuke Hanamura, anyone who wants to help a guy out. WHAT: CATCHEN SOME WOLVES. WHEN: DURING THE WOLF CATCHING EVENT? WHERE: Somewhere in a winding corridor.
Kanda comes around the corner, apparently speaking to someone over his shoulder and nearly walks right into Yosuke as he's getting up. He stops short, scowling down at him, his sword in his hand.
He looks a bit scuffed up, but nothing serious, and nothing that would immediately explain the incredibly annoyed expression on his face. Two of the beads on his bracelet are lit--one green, the other yellow--but apparently he's not finding any satisfaction in that either.
"Taking a rest?" he asks, though judging by his demeanor he's not very interested in the answer.

Haadsfkal Sorry about that things suddenly got super busy on me. ;;justacityboySeptember 3 2009, 15:56:14 UTC
Running into people isn't exactly Yosuke's idea of a pleasant way to meet, and nearly bumping into Kanda gave him a bit of a start. Being so alone for so long down in long, winding and empty hallways and thinking there was no chance in hell you'd get to see someone until the place let up wasn't conducive to making you very aware of your surroundings. (Besides, they usually had Rise or Teddie for that sort of thing. He was used to being lazy about it.)
He gave Kanda a quick once-over, noticing the beads on his arm. Damn.
"Something like that." This guy's attitude... Yosuke wasn't too sure he liked it that much. But if he had two beads already lit up, then, maybe...
NP! I'm totally down with the backtagging!kandescenceSeptember 3 2009, 16:41:08 UTC
Kanda wasn't the type to waste time on pleasantries, even under the best of circumstances. Unfortunately, he also wasn't the type to offer aid to those who were worse off than him. If someone was facing imminent death, he would step in to fight a foe for them, but besides that...
As far as he was concerned, the simple fact that he and this man were in the same hallway together was hardly reason to waste time on chit chat, team up, or even stick around.
He needed one more of these damn wolf-things to be through with this idiocy, and the sooner he could be, the better. Especially if there was even the slightest outside chance that anyone else was going to try throwing themselves into his arms and--ugh, he didn't even like to think about it.
He fixed the young man with an assessing glare in turn, and then, evidently not impressed, breathed an impatient little Tch as he moved to walk passed him down the hall. Perhaps in the back of his mind he realized that he was being rude (even for him), but recent events had put him off the idea
( ... )
Jeez, Yosuke frowned, not exactly liking the feeling of being totally snubbed. Seriously, did he have to completely brush him off like that? After a moment he looked over his shoulder, contemplating whether he should follow or just go about his own business. It was always better to stick with a team, but this guy... Why did the first person I see have to be a jerk?
Still, just because Kanda was being an ass didn't mean Yosuke had to be. Especially since this guy could obviously help him get more of his beads lit up.
"That's a dead end," he said, loudly enough to make sure that he could hear him even as he was moving away. "I just came from there, and there weren't any."
Well that was good enough to make Kanda pause at least, looking back over his shoulder at the young man with perhaps a modicum less disdain. He might have been an abrasive asshole, but Kanda was also pragmatic enough not to want to go storming down the hall for no reason.
Unfortunately, turning around and heading back the other way meant that he was likely to run into Walker again, a possibility on which, given recent events, Kanda was less than keen. He seemingly had two choices of company: the fucking Beansprout who was at least a capable fighter and (his downright bizarre actions earlier notwithstanding) a known annoyance, or else this guy--whoever he was--with the strange earmuff-looking things around his neck.
He considered for a moment before he spoke. "They appear sometimes in places they haven't been before," he said. But even though that might justify checking the dead-end up ahead, Kanda didn't walk away just yet.
"That's where I got this one," Yosuke replied as he turned to look at Kanda just standing in the middle of the hallway. For emphasis, he raised his arm and let the cuff of his uniform jacket fall down his arm a little to reveal the glowing beads around his wrist. "It hasn't been that long, either."
This guy obviously knew what he was doing to be able to get 2 beads done already; Yosuke knew it was better to stick in groups than to go it alone. That meant he was going to try to stick as close to this guy as possible. Of course, it didn't seem like he was going to try to make it easy. Yosuke crossed his arms, one of his long kunai dangling from between his fingers.
Why couldn't he have run into someone a little more helpful?
Insofar as he lived his life by his sword and was used to finding and defeating foes, Kanda might be said to know what he was doing in the wolf-capturing department. Insofar as having any particular strategy for accomplishing the task at hand went though, no. It was just a stroke of luck that "catching" the wolves was apparently construed loosely enough that they need be only vaguely alive in order to fill the quota
( ... )
It wasn't as if Yosuke couldn't be of service to him- not that Kanda would know or, y'know, care, but all the same. As to demonstrate that point, though, as Kanda walked past, Yosuke spun the kunai in his hand, not dropping it for once, which at least helped him look a bit more competent. He wasn't being very subtle in his intention to follow him down the hall and... well, wherever he went, but at the same time Kanda had made it plenty clear that he didn't want to be bothered- which meant Yosuke would be keeping his distance and keeping as quiet as possible.
Kanda led them down the hall for a short way until the path before them split into three. It was convenient because of the way it coincided with the absolute limit of his patience with this kid following along behind him like a damn out-of-synch shadow.
He stopped for a moment facing the triad of passages ahead, just long enough to let the kid catch up with him, and then spun abruptly on his heels to face him.
"If you're coming with me then make yourself useful," he barked.
Not that there was really anything in particular that he expected the kid to do at the moment. It was more Kanda's version of acknowledging--and in a way accepting--that the preposition "with" now applied to his current situation, while the adverb "alone" did not.
"Alright, I get it," came the near-groan. Honestly, this guy didn't expect him to pull his own weight? Well, maybe because he probably did look kind of useless. Even Yosuke would admit that. But he wasn't- not in the slightest. It would be a waste, though, to try anything right now- if they didn't see any of the wolves soon, whatever he cast now would have likely worn off by then.
That wouldn't be any good.
Instead, Yosuke slipped his headphones up over his ears. "I'll be 'useful' once we find some wolves."
Kanda didn't know from headphones, of course. As far as he was concerned, the ear coverings were meant either to offer warmth or else to block out sound. Given that it wasn't all that cold in the passageway, he simply assumed that their purpose was the latter. And though he definitely didn't take kindly to the idea that he was being brushed off or ignored, he also was not at all big on having to deal with small talk.
If this kid couldn't be bothered to even pay proper attention to their surroundings, then it wouldn't be Kanda's problem if he ended up getting his ass handed to him by something he never heard coming.
With a dismissive hrmph he led them down the farthest right corridor, one he had not yet explored, and then around a few more turnings, a right fork, a left, until he stopped at a turning, listening.
From the passageway to their left was a faint, almost inaudible fwhap fwhaping sound as of animal shaking itself.
Unlucky that Yosuke had chosen that exact moment to slide the headphones up over his ears, completely missing the sound thanks to their wonderful noise-canceling feature-great for when you want to drown the world out, not so good when you need to be paying attention. But it was usually what helped him keep his nerve- and his focus, during battles with Shadows. So far, this hadn't been so different, and besides that, Yosuke also wasn't exactly well trained to use all of his senses. If it wasn't right in front of him, he would usually miss it.
Which was why when he turned the corner, he found himself looking down one of the wolves they were intended to capture, nearly jumping back and colliding with Kanda. He almost exclaimed "dude!" but held his breath when he realized that might scare it away. Lucky for him, (and for Kanda) it hadn't seemed too bothered by his sudden appearance.

He just really, really wanted those wolves.
