Best of Jax
I am always totally frustrated when Folio puts out this stupid article. It's like realizing that every middle aged house-wife in jacksonville is REALLY who's in control of jax's 'cultural' scene. Evidenced by (and try not to vomit kids- this is messy):
Best Women's Clothing Store: Stein Mart.
Best Seafood- Gene's Seafood.
Best Italian: Maggiano's (well at least it isn't Carrabba's again)
Best Thai: Lemongrass (this place was so bad, so inauthentic and overpriced that I would never EVER go back.)
Best New Restaraunt AND Best Chinese: PF Chang's. It's like saying- 'Hey- I want to pay 10 extra dollars for my Hot-Wok-Identical Lo Mein so it can be served in china and I can have alcohol out at a restaraunt instead of in my dining room.' People are fucking idiots- THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF. Try Shiang Yuan on University for really good chinese.
Best Local Radio Station: 93.3 YEAH CLEARCHANNEL! Next year can it be 95.1 and they can, like, battle for the title yet STILL pad the bank accounts of evil radio censors?! YES!!!!! (I put 89.9 down on my application personally- it was the only one I could think of as UNF doesn't have a radio station. Well not REALLY).
Now I know most of these are not TRUE indicators of culture, but they really DO say something about jax: "I am a cheap, white, SUV driving, mid 40's woman with clothes 3 seasons old who has no idea what real decent food actually is or where to get it, whose 12 yr old hot topic weirdo son thinks that POD and Staind are the coolest bands ever and that he's totally 'alternative' for listening to some crap station I let him put on whenever 96.1 doesn't have delilah on air while I drive back to my Julington Creek patio home."

I do, however, think it's hilarious that in every single article that the Pearl is mentioned they ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS put down that TSI was there before it.
These are some things that made me happy:
Best Sushi- Sushi Cafe- yep.
Best Indian- India Gate- yep.
Best Men's Clothing Store- if I could afford any of it- yep. For po' kids like me I'd take Milo- but it's not just men's.
and granted I've never been and would never go, but
Best Late Night Bar- The Pearl (former underground club TSI)- I mean hey- at least the Globe or Rain or Leopard Lounge or Twisted Martini didn't win.
Awright now I have to go study for my last midterm.
