Human relationships.
The complexities.
I think that all our problem is, is that we're trying to follow the rule of the church when our instincts are telling us something different.
Jealousy.
Surely, we felt that in our more savage state?
-Why do you get to have that when I want it?-
Somewhere after the notion of "I" existed, spawned "I want".
The human race, a giant toddler, demanding things even with a twinge of jealousy, where people in modern times sheath their jealousy, allowing it to either explode later, with cycled, recycled and building frustration, or to beome some other evil. Or, maybe some people are truly more evolved, or very mature, to have no feelings of jealousy, to be rid of the need to own something or someone all to yourself.
Monogamy, while is very prudent to someone, especially those with STDs, is forced upon us by society. And not just the American culture, it's a world wide deal.
OK, so I get why churches endorse abstinence, chastity and marriage, these will all keep people of similar beliefs together to make more of those people with their beliefs. Aside from that, it's one of the greatest ways in the entire world to prevent the spread of disease.
We only infect each other through bodily fluid exchange. Sex and war, pretty much. War of olden times, maybe even current still, would be a great way to spread diseases besides just slaying the enemy. Give their prostitutes new diseases, wipe out some of the next generation. Plus, on the battlefield, you're just sloshing blood everywhere. Getting it splashed on you, splashing some on your buddies, it's basically a blood bash.
It's hard to believe politics would run that deep, though...
