Even I worked at Tatnuck.

Long before you chilluns were there. I did a holiday stint while I was still in college and told management that my schedule would change the next semester so I could still work there. They said, "excellent" and then proceeded to just not schedule me. I went into work on my scheduled time, punched in and everything. When I looked for the new schedule it wasn't there. So I found the manager at the time and asked. He said, "Oh, they didn't tell you? So-and-so (some other manager) was supposed to tell you." And proceded to tell me the reason I was not kept on after the holiday run was because my schedule didn't fit with what they needed.

I was actually good at my job - doing more than what was expected of me, not just standing around when the store got slow. Even getting asked to do special projects, displays and the like. They kept Olga. A bump on a log who didn't even have a way to get to work, she always had to get rides.

The truth is I was $20 off on my register one night because someone wrote me a $20 check for a $40 sale and I didn't catch it (it was the fucking holiday season and it was one of our busiest nights). I offered to put the $20 back in myself. They made an 'example' of me at the next staff meeting. Name withheld, but I'm sure a few people noticed the beat red college girl looking at the floor embarrassed. BTW that was the only night I was off on my register. I had been close to perfect every other time.

At which point I stopped frequenting their store for many years. It changed a whole lot. I really liked it the way it was when I started there. I loved they way it smelled. I missed that job a lot.
