Why this game is so great? Atmosphere. Damn did this game set a mood. Nothing like a 95% exploration game, 5% combat game. Not to mention that most of the combat was against various animals including wolves, alligators, cheetahs, gorillas, bats, velociraptors and a t-rex. Some of the puzzles in this game still exist in my mind as being some of the most clever puzzles I've ever solved. The music was the best ever in a video game, there was none. Only when there was emanating danger did a slow piano chime in, haunting you, daring you to walk around that next corner, only for you to tip-toe around the bend and there be nothing there, then the piano would stop. From out of nowhere a gorilla comes up behind you, bashing your brain in and then an orchestra booms in like an action sequence in a Lord of the Rings movie. This is one of two video games I've had a dream about, and NO, it wasn't a sex dream about Lara Croft. I dreamed I was on a rooftop controlling Lara fighting a giant spider. If I play a game so much I dream about it, it deserves to be in the top 3.
