Not many things make me happy, but water does.
I snorkeled for the first time in my life recently on my cruise to the Caribbean. It was probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my entire life. The tours supplied the snorkel gear, but since I'm an awesome swimmer I didn't want to wear a life vest. So I didn't. Thus allowing me to dive under water. The guides seemed skeptical at first... but it ended up fine. I snorkeled in Cozumel, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; and Grand Cayman.
Right after I jumped off the boat in Mexico, an older woman who was already looking under water looked at me and pointed beneath me. There were about 30 blue fish swimming all around. Some had stripes, some had yellow. It was completely unreal. My therapist, Lindsay, suggested I get SCUBA certified. I think that would be great. It'll be on my to do list.
If reincarnation exists, I'm fairly certain I've lived in the water in a past life.
Honduras was without a doubt my favorite. We kayaked a half hour out into the middle of nowhere. The waves were too big for Esme to go far from the tied up kayaks (our guide tethered them to a buoy). So we snorkeled a little around the kayaks, then helped Esme back onto the boats so the guide and I could go out to sea. The waves were strong. It was so amazing to be out there in the water, no land in sight. Swimming. Snorkeling. And experiencing everything so far away from the tourist infested beaches.
I swam through a school of a couple hundred fish. Eventually the guide stopped worrying about my swimming abilities and asked if I'd like to go farther. Of course I said yes. The water gradually got deeper and then there was a huge drop off ahead. I saw beautifully colored coral and fish. I saw a few of these: (parrot fish) And no I didn't take these pictures. lol
We reached the drop off. Completely open water... where the fish got huge and everything opened to the sea. It was so vast. Dark blue. And beautiful. I went over the edge of the drop off .. it was like hovering and flying over a cliff. I was living in a national geographic world. My stomach just dropped in a good way... seeing everything for myself. It was a completely different world. I knew barracudas could be around, but I wasn't scared at all. I'd already braved the huge waves and got stung by a tiny jellyfish-- nothing ruined it for me.
Everything was so beautiful, I literally heard music in my head. It sounded a little big like Enigma's music. Like this:

I really felt at home in the middle of the sea, as weird as that sounds I felt like I belonged. And if you know me, you know I never feel that way. I cant wait to move by the coast.
