Blind Date

It took everything Cassie had to fight her nerves as she moved through the picture perfect snowy landscape towards the location she'd been told for the blind date. Sure a part of her was excited but mostly she was nervous. Who could Cupid have set her up with? It helped a little that she knew it wasn't Kon. Actually, it helped alotFinally, she ( Read more... )

Chekov had never been on a blind date before. He'd been confused with the arrival of cookies and such like, and even more so at the letter with the time and place. It was then very difficult to find something to wear, considering most of what he had with him had come out of the box.

He'd finally gone with some of his old uniform - the pants, for one, and finally coaxed the box into giving him something that was not too "loud", as someone had told him most of the things he had were. Then he'd headed for the hut.

As he stepped inside, he looked around for his "blind date" and his eyes widened when he saw her. "...Cassie?"

Bored in her waiting, Cassie's eyes had drifted away from the door, down to where her fingers were picking at a seam on the chair. But at her name in a familiar voice, her head shot up, eyes wide. "Chekov?!"

Well...that certainly was unexpected. Pleasant but unexpected.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, the words out of her mouth before she could stop them.

Chekov stopped at the door a little uncertainly, rubbing at the back of his neck. "I uh...I got this note," he said after a moment. "It told me to come here. Did I come to wrong place?"

"I..." Cassie started before pausing to taking another deep breath to sort her thoughts. "I got one too. A note to come here."

She stood up and bashfully smoothed out her dress as she said with a nervous smile. "I guess I'm your blind date." She hoped...she didn't know what she hoped. Well...mainly he hoped he didn't walk out at the idea.

Chekov grinned at her, relaxing a little - before his eyes widened as he took in the dress and... "Wow," he said after a moment, feeling a small blush heating his cheeks.

Now he was glad he'd actually tried to dress up, even if it was woefully inadequate considering how she was looking. "You are looking amazing."

Now it was her turn to blush. She wasn't very comfortable in the dress so it was nice to know she didn't look like a complete idiot. "Thanks. Your not looking so bad yourself."

She walked over to him and shyly kissed his cheek as she moved to take his coat, figuring they might as well get the date started before they both spent the whole time standing there blushing.

"Thank you." Chekov slipped his coat off but didn't let her take it, smiling at her a little bashfully and hanging it up himself. Then he walked with her back to the table and pulled out her chair for her. "It is very hard to find nice things to dress with on island. The box is not very helpful."

Cassie gave him a bright smile in thanks as she sat down, finally starting to relax a little. "No it's not. My sister had to help me get this dress. It figures, usually dresses is all it gives me, but when I needed one? Nothing."

Chekov laughed. "That is...what is it you say? Sod's law?" he grinned and went around the table to sit down there himself.

"We call it Murphy's law but yeah, same thing I bet." Cassie said in agreement as reached out to take a sip from the filled glass in front of her. Juice, figures given they were both underage. "I'm almost surprised not to see you in your uniform." Her face flushed, since she kinda liked him in his uniform, not that she would say it.

Chekov half grinned a little shyly. "I thought I would try for something a little more...original?" he said after a moment. "It just seemed to be cheating a little if I wore uniform."

"Well, I like it." She reassured him lightly, reaching out to squeeze his hand before half standing up to investigate the covered dishes. It seemed the first course was some kind of salad and she carefully passed him his plate before sitting down with hers. "Wow, this looks good. Someone went all out on this."

"They really did," Chekov agreed, waiting for her to settle again before he dug in, occasionally looking up at her.

She caught him looking up at her a few times and blushed each time. Finally, Cassie grinned bashfully at him and asked, "What?"

He flushed slightly at that and laughed softly. "You just. Look really, really nice."

"Thanks." She said as she ducked her head, wondering if her cheeks could get any hotter.

After chasing the last few leaves of salad around her plate with her fork, she said softly, "I'm glad it was you. Being my blind date and all." She didn't add that she'd hoped because that was a bit much.
