And I come crawling back to livejournal.
I have been in DC since last Tuesday to attend the Computers in Libraries '06 conference. Yes I know, double nerd points, but I also stayed at the Hilton, so double pimp points as well. I really enjoyed the conference, actually. It was interesting and the speakers were for the most part really good (including my dad, who was by far the best just fyi). We stayed just north of Dupont Circle, which is a really cool area of town. I went and stood in the room where Abraham Lincoln died. It's right across the street from Ford's Theater. They also have the hat he was wearing when he was shot, the pillow he was using when he croaked, the gun that shot him, the coat he was wearing, etc. A little morbid. We also saw Seinfeld's puffy shirt at the Smithsonian, so all around it was a pretty cultural week.
And just like when I came back from KC, I had a "thanks but no thanks" letter waiting for me from a library in Washington State. I think I need to quit leaving town because every time I do those dumb fucking libraries decide I'm no good. What a confidence boost for my phone interview on Tuesday.
Anyway, here's pictures from DC.
Me in front of the White House...fuckers
My dad eating onion rings and drinking beer. This had to be documented. It was "33" beer from Vietnam. I had "Viking" from Iceland.
The park where we ate breakfast on Thursday. Immediately after taking this picture a homeless man started peeing on a tree to my left.
Abe Lincoln died on this spot.
Abe Lincoln was shot in this booth.
Me and The Gorgeous Sam Conway. I got fleeced at poker by his economist friends but he let me buy in twice for free and didn't tell them. Indiana pride.
