My niece emailed me today. Not uncommon I know. The subject of the email was about cell phones.
Her dad had someone call his cell phone - for arguments sake we'll say it was AT&T.
Supposedly, they were checking the service. I always check these things out and usually just forward to people I email on a regular bases.
I went to:
http://snopes.com/fraud/telephone/jailcall.asp To check it out. There are too many Internet hoaxes/urban legends out there to share bogus information.
Evidently this is a huge scam, as I got one from another friend, and it happened to them today.
This maybe inappropriate to put this here, but I'd rather you be mad at me than get screwed over.
They say they are checking your cell service. You'll be asked to type in # 9 0 in some order. If you do that, they have access to your account and can charge long distance calls to your number.
This is an old scam that someone is using again. You may know this info, if so I've totally wasted your time, and if not between all of us maybe we can keep it from happening to others.
Snow, T, - whatever you call me insert here
