My sciatic nerve hurt me the majority of my race on Sunday. As I was limping through the Seattle airport on Monday, I spotted a Crocs store. I wanted to go in and look at their new ugly heals just to point and laugh at them. I'm a fan of ugly yet comfortable Crocs shoes, but I felt that they had "jumped the shark" by coming out with these heals.
Upon spotting the ridiculous heels, I decided to try it on. I wasn't considering purchasing them. Honestly. I have SOME fashion sense...just not much. I just wanted to see how ugly they looked on.
I put them on and took a step forward. I immediately noticed something was different. The pain in my Sciatic Nerve had subsided. Shocked, I took a few more steps. The pain was gone. I could walk without a limp!
I then asked the price of said shoes. FIFTY DOLLARS! $50, for foam heals!!!!
I was about to put them back, but Brian bought them for me using his mom's credit card (he decided they would be his mom's bday gift to me).
I have been walking around without a limp ever since. My sciatic nerves still hurts, but the angle of the shoes...for whatever reason...alleviate the pain.
I have an appointment with Dr. Smith on Friday. He is a chiropractor that specializes in long distance runners. I'm not letting myself think about what this injury will mean to my future marathons this year. I don't want to speculate. Hopefully Dr. Smith will give me good news. Running has become part of my identity and I will be Sad Panda Eyes if I have to give it up...even for a little while.
