Dusty Footprints

With my new work schedule, I am trying to make a lot of positive changes. I’m trying to eat better. I’m trying to be more social. I’m trying to be even more active. Oh yes, and I really am cleaning my apartment. It's great...I can walk around without tripping and breaking anything. On Monday I went hiking with sinsnugget up Echo Mountain. What’s awesome about Echo Mountain is that you can explore the ruins of an old hotel that burned down twice years and years ago. It’s mostly the foundation that’s left, but it’s still wicked cool. A while back while hiking with sexycindy26, I found an old bed post. Occasionally I find pieces of old broken dishes; lots of melted glass. It’s really interesting. Anyway, at the top sinsnugget and I opted to continue. I had never been past this point and really didn’t know where the new trail would lead. The trail continued another mile or so. It ended in an area burned by the Station Fires.

At first it looked like this sign was covered with something…but it was actually melted!

A burned Yucca plant.

Because we got a late start and hiked further than expected, it was getting dark as we were getting back. Ooops.

It was about 7 miles round trip. The following day I went hiking with my friend Marian. We went on the same trail because it is near her house. Although we didn’t hike as far, I was far from disappointed. At some point during my hiking travels, I had developed blisters on my left big toe and my right heel. After hiking, Marian and I went to a vegan restaurant near my apartment (no, I’m not vegan). It was so delicious. I discovered they deliver. This is a dangerous discovery.

Anyway, I’m planning another hiking trip next Tuesday. I don’t have an exact start time yet, but I’m thinking of starting at 10 or 11am. This hike will go up the Mt Wilson trail which starts in Sierra Madre. We will most likely turn around at Orchard Camp. As I remember, it’s roughly 1.5 miles to First Water. Then it’s another 2 miles to Orchard Camp. About ¾ of the way to Orchard Camp, there is a spring with water coming out of a rock. I usually refill my waterbottle there. If we are all feeling good, we may push on to Manzanita Ridge which would be an additional 1.9 miles. Contact me if you are interested in joining the group. So far there are three of us.
