Adventures In San Francisco Pt 1 -- Arrival

Oct 21, 2009 17:48

I figure I will post about my adventures in San Francisco one day at a time. We start with Friday 10/16/09.

Upon arriving into San Francisco, I checked into the hotel. I met my roommate for the first time while waiting in line to check in. Her name was Claudia; she was from the San Fernando Valley chapter of Team In Training. After dropping my stuff off in the room and exchanging formalities, I walked to Nike Town glad to be on my own. Being a Nike Women's Marathon veteran, I knew Friday was the better day go to Nike Town. Friday is crowded, but Saturday is isane! Saturday you have to wait in line just to get into the store. By Saturday a lot of the cool race gear would be sold out of the smaller sizes. After I finished looking at this year's official race gear, I went outside to find my name on the wall. Every year Nike Town prints the names of all the runners on the side of their building. I located my name in record time.

Then I walked over to Union Square to pick up my race packet.

From there I grabbed lunch at a Thai noodle place that I like. I had roasted duck noodle soup. Afterwards I was really tired (I had barely any sleep the night before), so I went back to the hotel room to grab a nap. Claudia came in and chatted my ear off. Blah. Resigned that I wouldn't get my nap, I started decorating my race singlet. Finally Claudia left to meet up with a friend. Then I took my nap. I woke up as it was getting dark. I wanted to go back to sleep. But, I dragged myself out of bed. I looked at the room service menu but decided it was WAY too expensive. The cheapest thing was like $25! So, I took a walk leaving my map in the hotel room. A lot of the restaurants were packed! I started to become worried that dinner was going to be difficult to find. I also started to feel a little lonely. I love wandering the city of San Francisco alone, but I wanted company if I was going to wait for food. I started wishing I had grabbed my map. I wanted to find China Town. I walked in the general direction that I remembered it being. Much to my pleasure, I found it. China Town in San Francisco is WAY BETTER than China Town in Downtown LA. It looks so neat at night! I couldn't put my camera away. Oh, and I bought a really cute purse for $3.99!

This is where I had dinner. Sadly, it was overpriced and not the greatest quality. I did enjoy two glasses of fresh watermelon juice though!

This is my favorite photo I took while wandering China Town. The CocaCola symbol is my favorite part. I also love the way the bricks look in the light cast from the street.

Once the shops started closing, I headed back to the hotel making a detour through Union Square. It looked really neat at night.

Unfortunately I ran into a crazy guy who didn't speak any english. He kept trying to shake my hand and give me a hug. I quickly left the area.

I went back to the hotel. My roommate was still not back (yay). The people in the hotel room next to me were having very loud sex. I watched a bit of TV, then went to sleep.

Tune in tomorrow for more adventures in San Francisco!
