Grocery game

Since I started that save money assignment, I decided to try and cut coupons and buy stuff on special at the grocery store.

First time was two weeks ago and I apparently saved 28% on my bill. Today I hit 33%! That's really cool :-) My Safeway receipt told me I'd saved more than $50! It's true that it takes a little longer, but I decided that's because I'm new and have to read everything carefully and don't know where everything is at Safeway yet. One of the things I've learned so far is that sometimes you buy differently, ie: things you may not *need* persay, to get the best deals, but that's OK. I had to buy two boxes of trash bags and three boxes of Kleenex to get a $5 off coupon, but it's not like those things go bad! I also don't usually get Honey Nut Cheerios, but today I did because I had two coupons (one store and one manufacturers) and the one box of cereal came to $0.88. I did it because it was fun :-)

Also, my mom says you can view coupons online and load them on to your Fred Meyer card instead of printing. I am off to go investigate that.

I did pay a babysitter to keep the rugrats so that I could actually concentrate on shopping vs. throwing a bunch of crap in the cart as fast as possible, completely disregarding the price of everything just to get done faster, but even when I account for that, I still came out $25 ahead. And, much more sane :-)

shopping, coupons, baby-sitting, money, kids
