so i gave in and joined facebook, and apparently everyone in the whole world is over there, but seriously, what's it for? what do you do? i don't understand. it's not like lj at all ...
I guess for me the difference from LJ is that you're sharing one-line blurbs, photos, and occasionally longer but still public messages, with friends and family: people that I'm not sure I even want to be aware of my journal, can be a part of my Facebook. So for example I can post our doings with this move quite easily and share pics of the kids with even my dad's estranged brothers and sisters.
is there any ettiquette to who you friend? i've found quite a few ex-friends (because it stalks your email?) and am just not sure what to do ... should i friend mutual friends? or leave a wide distance ... what exactly does a facebook friend request connotate? why would you want to share one-line blubs anyway? it's so weird over there ...

First, hunt for everyone you know and friend them! You're likely to find people from all eras of your life, so think back to friends you've lost track of as well as people you currently know. Old friends will be delighted to catch up with you!
Then once you have some friends, if you click your Home button you will see all your friends' status updates. It's like reading your friends list here, except the status updates are shorter.
It's a great place to post photos to share, too. I really like it. I'd friend you but I don't know your last name!

Facebook is how my motherinlaw keeps tabs on me. :P Naw, it's ok. It's not like lj at all and I keep all my journaling on LJ, but it's fun to mess around and connect with people on facebook.
I was hesitant to join Faceboook in the beginning, but then, like, ever other person in the world except for me (and apparently you) was on there, so I went for it. And now I'm quite addicted. It's just such a nice way to stay in touch with people, to creep/stalk other people, and to post pictures for friends and family. I'm a fan.
It's up to you what types of people you want to add. I have friends, family, acquaintances, and old friends on there (people whom I never talk to anymore but am interested in seeing what they're up to.) If you decide to add LJ peeps, I'm the only Pamela Blotnicky.
