Our couch saga

Jul 29, 2008 09:11

In sum: We ordered our dream couch at the end of last month. They said they'd deliver it the monday after we moved in. Monday came. And went. They said, oh sorry. It will be two more weeks. We'll deliver it for free though. Two more weeks came and went. We called. They said that the couch making company went out of business and that couch isn't available anymore. We were welcome to come pick something else and they'd deliver that for free. We said, uh, we live in Everett now (this store is more than an hour away from our new place) so if we could just have our money back ...

And they said, oh I'm sorry, you have to come in and get your card swiped to get your money back. We can't do it on the phone. !!!! Yeah, whatever. So what you're telling me is that you want us back in the store on the hopes that we'll find something else.

So we made it our goal to find a different couch. We set out in hopes of finding something we could agree on, liked almost as much (maybe more?!?!?!) and cost less. We went to store after store after store. Ben was such a trooper. It could not have been fun. Lots and lots of not touching shiny breakable things.

Anyway, it was recommended to us to try IKEA, which is down here, and we though, OH! Ben is old enough to go into their child care thing now, so we came down. Stephen was planning to do some massages anyway. Sadly, the IKEA childcare required that the kids be 3, so after we promised him he could go to playland, we had to tell him that he couldn't go after all. And he even handled that like a champ. If he had cried, I wouldn't have blamed him one bit. In fact, a small part of me maybe even *wanted* him to cry in front of the mean lady who wouldn't take him even though he is potty trained and speaks better than most 3-year-olds I know.

So we looked briefly at IKEA, but there was nothing we liked. As a last resort before finding something fun to do to help Ben feel better, we decided to try one last store, Mor Furnature, which was right across the street. We walked in the door, turned the corner, and there was our couch!!!!!!

You know, the one whose manufacturer had gone out of business and wasn't available anywhere anymore? Also, it was $100 cheaper than we paid for it. SWEET DEAL! The only bad thing is that we have to wait another three weeks for it to be delivered. But, we did get 0 percent financing for 12 months. Who could ask for anything more?

As for the other store, we figured they probably had a delinquent account with that company or something, so they just told us it was the other guy's fault in hopes of not losing a customer. Uh, yeah. Whatever.
