Shiny new chompers

Ben was sweet and cooperative about getting his teeth brushed tonight. I was glad, because Stephen was gone and I didn't really feel up to holding him down by force without backup.

While his mouth was wide wide wide open, I gasped to see his first 2 year molar was completely through. I'd seriously just looked in his mouth and ran my fingers over the swolen gum on Saturday morning. At that point, there was just a hole in his bright red gums.

Today, the tooth was so far through that I thought it was the molar in front of it and was looking for the hole in his gum BEHIND this tooth. (Does that even make sense? It was so far through that I actually thought the new tooth was one he'd had for a year!)

I never saw his first set of molars come through because at 15 months, there was no way he would ever let us in his mouth, and we didn't know enough about the importance of brushing baby teeth to force the issue. Anyway, so I've only seen the front teeth come through, and those ones were so slow going. You saw the hole, and then he had like half a centimeter of tooth and then 1 cm and then 1.5 etc. It took months.

This was like, a hole one day, and an entire tooth the next. Fully through!!!!!

Have I mentioned how amazed I am with the way babies grow and learn? I still can't get over the idea that we MADE this perfect and beautiful little human of ours.

Wow.

Happy parenting everyone. :-)
