Last week, a reporter wrote a Bumbershoot preview story for me featuring some of the performers who were going to be there. It came in a little short, so I asked him to add to it. I also noticed the headliners and said I couldn't believe he hadn't mentioned that Joss Stone was going to be there. He rolled his eyes at me (clearly our tastes are NOT very similar) but added a little paragraph about her. He was pretty nice too, considering it was obvious that she's not his style.
Joss Stone. Monday at 1:15 p.m. This solo artist known for her collaborations with Common and Lauryn Hill, has a kind of jazz meets R&B sound with a truly delightful voice.
Anyway, this morning, he comes running to my computer, pulls the whole machine back and shoves a jumper into it. I ask him what he's doing and he says "I have something for you." He tells me where to go on his jump drive and I copy the file to my desktop. It finally opens and it's a sound file. He loans me his headphones and lo and behold, it's the Joss Stone concert! In its entirety, bootlegged just for me. I've never listened to a bootlegged concert before (that I know of anyway) so I'm feeling kinda smirky and mischievous.
So far, no "You Had Me" which is my favorite song, but I did get to jive around to "Are You Diggin' on Me?" and sing "Yeah" a lot. (In my head. Not outloud. I'm at work, you know.)
And I'm embarrassed to say I did not know that Joss Stone was British until I heard her talk at this concert. Hell, I remember (this was a few years ago, don't laugh too hard) how surprised I was when I found out she was WHITE!!!! lol. She has such a soulful Aretha Franklin type voice, I just assumed, you know? :-)
Anyway, my concert is about an hour long and I'm at about 40 minutes so far. Yay for happy music!!!!
PS: "You Had Me" right as I was about to hit post!!!! WOOT!!!!!!!!
