Oh bother... I really hate drawing the Five of Wands today, mostly because it deals with minor hassles and arguments:
The fives generally mean there is a challenge of some type to be overcome. With the Five of Wands, I usually think the challenge is getting people to agree on how to accomplish something. I call this the "Do it my way... or else!" card. Notice how the tunics and tights of the fellows are all different - one even wears a hat. It emphasizes the variety of ways something could be done; the rods they spar with represents their individual opinions that they are passionate about. Thankfully, no one really seems to be getting hurt here. I suppose when it comes to standing up for my opinion, I should ask myself, "How important is it, really?" Sometimes it just comes down to me not wanting to change (or consider another option), but that's not worth all the headaches of endless arguments. Better to put down the stick and let the rest of them hash it out if they think it's necessary...
The button drawn today is the Skull: Change, Endings, Beginnings. The quote comes from Karen Kaiser Clark: "Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely." The skull perhaps represents the greatest of all changes, but we have so many small endings and beginnings every day. Today is the end of the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas), and we'll soon be entering a new year. My greatest life lessons are often based on how well I navigate these changes and endings. Endings are sometimes things to look forward to - the end of a sickness, winter changing into spring. It's all a matter of attitude...
