I usually find politics boring. I did yawn when I mentioned that in my bio. But sometimes I find it pretty damn amusing, too. Today, I noticed in particular the effects of being a partisan. I read a guy who dislikes Bush's politics regarding Israel, and said that Kerry would handle it better. He also claimed not to be a Democrat. And maybe he wasn't. But he probably used to be, and the effects were still there. He is being hard on a guy who calls himself a Republican, and easy on a guy who calls himself a Democrat, even though Kerry actually thought that Bush's recent agreement with Ariel Sharon was a positive step. There is little apparent difference between Bush and Kerry.
It's the same with people who dislike Bush in general. He wouldn't be "The Shrub" or a stupid monkey if he was a Democrat, or at least he wouldn't be to more people.
I've read an article by a guy who said he's definitely not a Democrat and not a liberal, either. He went on to say how Reagan is one of the worst presidents and Clinton is one of the best. And every other article he writes contains some pretty heavy personal attacks against the current president, regarding everything from the way he talks to his sex life. How convincing.
Yes, it goes the other way. There are conservatives who are hard on Democrats. There are plenty who actually can't stand Kerry's positions on foreign policy, which I find amazing. I'm sure I'll notice far more of this if Kerry becomes president... because then it'll be right in my face rather than me having to accidentally come across material about him and talking about it here.
I'm sure that the Democrats-hating-Republicans happens about the same amount as Republicans-hating-Democrats. I only notice the former more often because 1) I tend to swing toward the Republican side, so I notice attacks against them more (even if I don't agree with the Republican being attacked, which happens a lot), and 2) the current president is a Republican, so there is a wealth of attacks against him that I can see without looking for them.
Yawn. People are funny.
