so, if any of my many readers ever decide to visit trinidad, here is my advice.
stay at the pax guesthouse. it is located right around a monastery on the side of a mountain. it is the best place i have been in trinidad. all the carnival stuff and mixing and diversity and african and indian and hindu and muslim and orisa.. i really think you can forget all of that and just come stay a few days at the guesthouse.
they serve you a solid breakfast (and bake their own bread for your toast) and THE BEST dinner (local food obviously, with some other things mixed in). and lots of tea. if the weather is decent, you eat outside on a veranda which overlooks a billion trees, and for most of the day hummingbirds (7 or 9 species, several of each) buzz around. and it's quiet. it's so nice and quiet. and the owners are also THE BEST. gerard and oda. i think they are actually the best people i have ever met (there is strict criteria, a rubric that i check off).
and if you grow bored, they can arrange an affordable car to take you wherever. now, you can go anywhere, really, but you should just go to the rainforest. go to the asa wright nature center. and stay in the rainforest. then go back to the guesthouse.
i'm not a birdwatcher type person, but i think it would be fun to become one. i met quite a few the last couple days, and i saw a ton of birds (even vultures.. the only vultures i had seen were the ones on splash mountain). and i think maybe being into birds could be ok. so would being british.
the guesthouse is also only 50 dollars a night. which is good, 1 because it is THE BEST and 2 because that also includes 2 meals and 3 because it is THE BEST.
what else. i don't know. i think maybe it is my favorite place ever.
