In Nintendo that is. I'm a gamer nerd. I play a lot of videogames. I own a Wii, 360, and a PS3.
The more I try to hold out hope, the more I realize I shouldn't. Nintendo had their E3 conference. Among the gems announced were a new Metroid game(which rocks), a remake of the New Super Mario Brothers that's on DS currently, and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Make no mistake, Mario Galaxy 2 will be an immediate buy for me.
I grew up with Nintendo. I remember playing my original NES. What the hell happened? It's like Nintendo freaked out with the Wii. They began succeeding with it and now suddenly it's like they only care about making a quick buck. I think what sent me over the edge was the conversation I had last night with the head developer of EA Games.
I had asked him why it is that NCAA Football 09 on the Wii didn't have the features that the other versions on other consoles did. He told me Nintendo approached EA and told them that if they wanted to get put it out on Wii, they were gonna have to strip it down to make it more family friendly. They did it just so they could get it on there and the fans wouldn't feel completely ripped off. EA also makes the Godfather games. The first Godfather game was on Wii, and I dare say it was the best version. I know this because I have that game on Wii and 360. They went above and beyond to add extras to the Wii and revamp some of the environments. When it came time to develop The Godfather 2, he told me Nintendo approached them again and asked them to may be make it an on rails shooter or maybe have all the missions be car related to tone the violence down. Not wanting to strip it down, EA opted to instead not bring it out on Wii. They may down the road, but only if Nintendo will budge. He told me it doesn't seem likely.
This year they decided not to bring out NCAA Football 10 on Wii. They had tred to talk to Nintendo, but Nintendo said they wanted most of the features taken out, and they didn't want people to be able to create teams on it like you can on the other versions. Nintendo claims creating teams with your own logos can violate copyright policies, and blah blah blah.
I hate to say this, but for the first time ever, when Nintendo releases their next console I may take a wait and see approach. This is personal opinion of course, but I think I'd really hate being a Wii only owner after having played some of the awesome games on other systems.
