Mindsets.

I thought I would pose a question here which has given me a good bit of difficulty.

Context: Lately I've been trying to focus completely in the present. That is, no contemplation of the past, no analysis of the future. Everything seems great about this philosophy up to the point where I have to plan things, which breaks me out of the present ( Read more... )

keep the goals in mind and check once in awhile that you're on track, otherwise just live blu3n3k0boiy September 28 2007, 18:55:05 UTC
That is, no contemplation of the past, no analysis of the future.

wait... isn't that supposed to be the other way around?

As far as goals though, I think you can keep peace of mind if you have goals in mind already. When i didn't have any goals back when I was kicked out of school, it really did suck a lot more. I spent my days trying to figure out what to do and then the days just ended.
Goals simply tell you what direction to flow, so, in a sense, it isn't an unpredictable future. Just keep in mind that, like water flowing to a wall, you sometimes have to divert from your path to obtain the goal later on.

Although this sounds a little desperate, you should try to complete little goals throughout your days but allow for some of them to go incomplete. (Having ADHD this is what I have to do to stay on task and run my day sadly XD.) Just don't lose sight on which goals are most important to you. I'm still just learning this stuff, but i mean like long term stuff takes time, not so much planning as much as waiting, so while you set one plan into motion let the flow take you, just check every once in awhile. My present goal is simply to graduate from this college so i can go get a job back and to hear the speaker mess up at graduation when she/he says "DEA--Dean YANG?!" That will just take more time and work than planning. So I end up having to live in the present, taking care of assignments one at a time. Granted there are some classes and oportunities i want to take advantage of while here, some academic some not ;), so I make them goals to accomplish. But because things happen that aren't predictable, or at least I didn't think they'd happen, I have to change courses and shift my schedule around. When you think about it, that's all school really is, besides job and learning training.

I'm getting off topic, and rambling sorry XD, but basically You should have some peace of mind already because you have some goals in this crazy progress driven world, just don't let your expectations drive you crazy when something goes amiss, simply take it as a diversion and something you'll try coming back to tomorrow. and my mp3 player died already... wtf
:ahem: anyways "don' worry be happy"

Ack, forgot to say this blu3n3k0boiy September 28 2007, 19:02:05 UTC
I forgot, What i was going to say is I make a bunch of things to do goals for the day and try my best at them in a hit and miss style. That way if i get some things done, atleats i'll feel happy about the little things, I'll just make sure i'm still directed at finishing my main goal, whatever it is. ^^ also

Yeah, I definitely think allowing yourself not to finish is a good thing. Actually... just accepting the notion that you will never be finished, and maybe discarding the idea of needing to feel done, is probably what I need to do.

A certain degree of spontaneous action is required to get by in this world ;P And oh! One thing at a time is also a really, really good strategy. It leads, weirdly, to me being more productive than multiple things at a time, because I finish each task faster, and with less stress.

Yay for Breyers ice creams! :)
