roll on, roll on rollercoaster

The other day I started reading this book Marc gave me years ago. I don't know why I hadn't opened it before. Clearly, that was a mistake. It's called The Between Boyfriends Book, which in my case is a misnomer because I have not rececntly nor do I expect to soon have a boyfriend. Essentially it's for single people. And it's by one of the writer's of Sex and the City. It's smart. And witty. And making me smile.

Subsequently, I suppose I should recount my weekend. It wasn't typical for me. And I had the best time ever.

I decided to visit BKI Friday because I was tired of doing nothing and hadn't seen them in a while. I showed up around three and they were crazy busy so mostly I just hung out and tried to stay out of the way. They said they were going to Rim, a wine bar, after work and since it was very nearly five anyway, and I had no other plans I accepted the invitation.

[Side note: The place was small but sufficiently arty, and now that I think about it, exactly what I expected from a wine bar. And the bartender was friendly and ricidulously knowledgeable. Kirsten, I never saw you at work but even though I saw the menu you had to memorize when you started, I have a newfound respect for what you have to do at Aquavina.)

What was originally planned as one glass of wine after work, turned into several along with several other people joining us. Which then turned into us going to another bar and ultimately, me not getting home until 1am. It's also surprising how much you can drink when you're not drinking. What I mean is, I had a glass at Rim. It was substantial and I was driving and expected to be leaving soon so I stopped. Ordered nothing when we got to the next place. But drinks kept being ordered and put at the table between me and a friend who also didn't really want what was in the glass. And since it was there I said I'd help her. And granted I only ended up having two -different things, btw- over the course of us being there and I felt fine, I did not feel so fine when I was finally trying to sleep.

Then Saturday I watched a movie with another friend (Untraceable. wasn't impressed) and then met up with Adrijana and some of her friends at the bar. Okay, so it wasn't a bar so much as it was Ham's, but it was after 11, the only thing on the table was drinks, and there was horrible karaoke and crazy loud music so like I said, bar. I was a little disappointed because I hadn't seen her in a while and it was almost impossible to talk over the noise but it was still way more fun than being at home. And then some guy, whos name I don't even remember, not because of drinking but because I couldn't hear a thing, sat next to me. Now I don't know a lot about bars or dating but he wouldn't shut up. It could be because a) since we were sitting next to each other I was the only person close enough for him to talk to or b) he was flirting with me. It remains to be seen and I'll never know but that's not the point either.

Two days of not leaving the house was certainly balanced out by fun, fun times.
