What book are you currently reading?
1. "Deathless" by Catherynne M. Valente
2. "Runelight" by Joanne Harris
How far in are you?
1. Almost finished.
2. About a chapter and a half in.
What's it about?
1. A modern retelling of the tale of the Death of Koschei the Deathless, set against the backdrop of twentieth century Russia.
2. It's set three years out of "Runemarks". After the destruction of the Order, the surviving gods gather together in Malbry. There is a prophecy, coupled with the appearance of strange creatures, that signals a breach in Chaos, which may lead to the end of the world.
Are you enjoying it?
1. More than I expected, actually. Catherynne Valente has always intrigued me, much in the same way that Neil Gaiman does, but at the same time it seems like you have to be careful about which of her works you pick as an introduction? In any case, I love fairy tales and Valente's style - in this book, at least - compliments the format really well.
2. It's early days still, really, but I enjoyed the first book and so far the sequel seems to be following on from it quite well.
