So tonight I had to take a CPR class. It was supposed to last 5 hours, but thankfully it only lasted about 3.5 hours. I doubt I have an attention span that is 5 hours long. Anyway, It was well, you know an experience that you just have to get through. Ah, a highlight of the night was when we were practicing the hiemlech manuver. You are supposed to ask a choking victem if they are choking (DUH!!) and if they want your help. If they are choking their only response will be a nod of the head. So these guys from RPT were practicing and one asks his friend, "Are you choking?". The friend replies, "YES!"...ok, so that was lame, but just about anything is funny when you are practicing the heimlech. Oh, you know what else is funny. Try yelling "Someone call 911 and get an AED" in a southern accent several times in a row.
Well, after the class, I went to catch the bus. You know at night they kinda hang out outside the Reitz until they leave again. So all 6 of us are waiting on the bus for it to leave again. So as we are waiting, our driver falls out of the bus. Now I did not see her do it, but it happened, I heard the "are you ok?" and the moaning that followed. Now that is never good. For a split second I regretted ever taking 1st Aid and CPR..I suddenly have a responsiblity. All the things I wish I had remembered to learn but didnt rushed through my head. But it appeared that she just either sprained or broke her arm. Nothing I could do anything for...but if she had gone into cardiac arrest...I could have helped. So they called the EMT's and the poor lady had to wait in pain by her bus for them to come. I felt so sorry for her. She was really in pain. We all had to get off and wait for another bus.
So the morals of this story is: Be careful getting off a bus, even bus drivers can trip and fall.
And, NEVER get hurt around me...I may be certified, but I am not confident nor do I remember everything I was taught!
