There is beauty here...

I miss the mountains and familiar people and places.  My latest move was not for asthetic qualities in the slightest degree.  But...I challenged my self to see the beauty here, the aspects  and people that I will claim as quaint...and...well, home.  I had some free time and a sunset to kill.  I grabbed my camera and a mental map.  Driving through town and the countryside, I have seen glimpses of pictures I wanted to capture.  Small still frames that I wanted to keep.  So I set out looking for them.  I raced the sun to one run down old shed at the edge of a snow covered corn field.  As I frantically raced the sun to my destination, I passed trees, houses, pastures, irrigators and many other scenes that altered in the bright orange of the sun slipping away.  I logged them away to get to my chosen still frame first.  I pulled over, raced out of Moose, and framed a picture I was excited to get developed even before I pressed the shutter.....and then...nothing....no power...no battery.  Frusterated in defeat, I got upset.  Then I stopped, stood in the quickly chilling evening, and soaked it in.  I had found the beauty I was looking for.  A picture of this place that I so desperately wanted to record, that I was upset in not capturing it on film.  I had found the beauty in this place that I wanted to love.  I started regretting all the pictures I had driven past to capture this one run down buidling in the faded colors of the day.  As I drove home, I realized that often you miss the beauty and take people for granted where you are.  Every where you go has something offer, only if you choose to see the beauty in its character and inconsistancies.  For me it comes when I want to capture it on film. It often takes me until then to see past the dull everyday moments to the beauty underneath.
