Wow that is exciting to be an aunt, a second time! And how adorable that your niece prays for you.
I am just relaxin' today on this saturday. Two more weeks of work with AmeriCorps. I am tutoring at an African-American church's ministry on the east side of town. Their ministry is well recognized in our community but the style of their sanctuary was a bit of a culture shock to me. Over the door there is a big picture of the pastor that says, "Congratulations Pastor Dennison!" To the right of the door is a big picture of the pastor and his wife, "the first lady," "our Sister" so and so. You can see straight ahead into the sanctuary that there is a gigantic picture over the pulpit of Jesus with some African facial features on the cross and African-American men, women, and children, clinging to him. There are red tinted windows so that the light in the room is red. On each side of the pulpit there are big ornate gold and red velvet chairs.
I looked at their website and read their doctrinal statement and I agree with most of it. The pastor is very well recognized in the community.
