things that make me cranky
1. John Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, has a recurrence of breast cancer -- this time, it's metastatic Stage 4 cancer -- requiring treatment. It's 10 months from the first primary, and a year and a half from the election... and this is his announcement: The campaign goes on," the former senator from North Carolina said... From our perspective, there was no reason to stop," the candidate said. "I don't think we seriously thought about it." He said, "You can go cower in the corner and hide or you can go out there and stand up for what you believe in. We have no intentions of cowering in the corner."
Taking a month off to be with your wife during treatment =/= cowering in the corner. Just -- ugh.
2. Papelbon to close again. ::SIGH:: Yes, I will love the certainty that he will be pretty damn good (though not flukishly low 0.92 ERA good again) at the end of games. I will NOT love the rotating suckfest in the fifth starter spot -- Tavarez? Snyder? Hansack? Gabbard? Lester? Clemens in June? (Note to the Rocket: Just goddamned SHUT UP or RETIRE.)
Also? I want Papelbon to start because I think he can be a damn good starter, and 200 damn good innings/season are more valuable than 60 excellent innings. Plus, a mediocre-to-below average closer will still be successful the majority of the time, especially coming in with a three run lead.
