I was visiting the jail when my first case arrived--and I somehow managed to win. I guess I still have it in me.

If you don't mind, I think we should have a talk.

(All of a sudden, I'm not in a talkative mood.)

About what?

Trucy.

I don't wish to pry any further into the situation, as it isn't really my business, but...

But...?

...My own father did not tell me our our relation until I remember myself, despite his having received the memory a few weeks earlier.

While he still has not told me why he choose to do this-

I'm sure Trucy had much the same, and well-meaning, intentions, despite the actual effects of their actions.

... She told you about this?

(Trucy must have more worried than I had thought.)

It's all right, Kid. I understand.

It's not the first time a defendent has lied to me. It's my job to find out the truth--and bring it to light.

As good at finding the truth as you might be, Trucy shouldn't simply be just another "defendant." Even knowing you are not her real father, she still refers to you as such-

She isn't on trial for attempting to spare your feelings, despite that plan perhaps backfiring.

(Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.)

Er. I'm not... putting her on trial.

You just referred to her as a defendant.

...

It's easier to say "defendant" than "daughter." But it doesn't mean she's on trial. I'm not angry that she lied to me.

Not angry, no.

But perhaps disappointed that the one who did know the truth did not think you ready to hear it.

Not... disappointed.

Or maybe not in the way you're talking about.

(I wonder if I would have a lock on me.)
