Elena had been waiting there since she heard from Caroline. This was not what she needed. She did not need a compelled Stefan and Klaus wandering around looking for her. As far as she was concerned, she didn't want to be found. She would have to be a shut in, completely cut off from the rest of the world, but ... maybe in the end it was safer that way.
When she heard Caroline's voice, she took a few steps forward into the doorway and gave her a smile. "Hey. How'd it go with your boss?"
Tyler showed up a few minutes after Elena. Okay, so maybe he had put off arriving a little bit. He and Caroline hadn't really patched things up yet since their fight, and he doubted this was going to make anything better.
But he eventually made his way in, calling out. "Hello?"
Caroline had just arrived so when she heard Tyler, she opted to just turn around and go toward him, giving him a hug. Even if they had been fighting, she was still glad to see him. Everything just felt so different right now, that knowing he'd made it there and that they were all going to work on this together.
It felt like the right start.
"Hi. Sorry. Hi." She pulled away briefly and moved toward Elena.
"I just finished talking with Tony and he's going to really add into the security system that's already in the building. I told him what I am." She paused, turning to look at Tyler, "Nothing about you - but if he's increasing security - we might need to find you a different spot for your change."
Once more, Caroline was in her 'Time to Organize All the Things' mode.
"I showed him Klaus on the datapad, explained just how dangerous he is, and I think he kind of gets it. He's going to see if he can get the security of the building to just not let him in."
Elena let them have their moment, waiting off to the side while they did. Tyler and Caroline had still been too new before everything else happened for Elena to really know how to react, but ... they had been taking care of each other for a while. And in some ways, they had been good for each other.
And then Klaus had come in and blew everything to pieces.
She also let Caroline get out her ramble before responding. "Technological vampire proofing," Elena said with a bit of a smirk. "I like it. Do you think he can pull it off?"
When Caroline pulled away, it felt like it was too quickly. He couldn't help it. They had been fighting for far too long it felt like, and now that she was willingly hugging him again? He wanted to savor it.
Especially since she'd probably be pissed at him again once she heard he talked to Klaus. Whoops.
Instead, he nodded, focussing on Caroline's words. "Right. We should start looking for someplace else then, just in case."
At Elena's words, he snorted a little. "He at least thinks he can, I'm sure. That guy has an ego the size of a country."
Caroline gave Tyler a glance, then returned her focus to Caroline, "It's something at least. I mean, I don't know how long it'll take him, which is why we need to get all of our ducks in a row."
"First, what exactly does Klaus want with you? I mean, last I knew he thought you were dead and Stefan was no where near Mystic Falls."
Not that she was looking to point fingers at Elena, but she saw the board in Damon's room. She knew that Elena had been looking for him.
"If Stefan is back in town back home, then he's going to know a lot more than we think he does, right? Is there a way to find out when he's from and how that changes what he knows about all of us?"
"How exactly are we going to get him to talk?" Tyler asked in a skeptical sort of voice. "It's not like there's a way we can force the answer out of him or anything."
"Yeah, the more we know, the easier it'll be to plan things."
Of course, Tyler was supporting Caroline. Besides that, it seemed like the best way to go. Elena had more information than they did, clearly she needed to share with them.
Needing to know everything. Awesome. Okay. There were things that Elena ... definitely wasn't going to tell. She couldn't look Tyler in the eye and just tell him that he was killed, turned into a hybrid, and sired to Klaus. The idea of having to tell him the truth ... she couldn't.
She wasn't going to tell one of her oldest friends that he died.
But she couldn't keep other things from them either. So she took a breath and started at the top.
"Stefan went with Klaus to save Damon. But in order to do that, he had to start drinking human blood again. He ... he had to become a ripper. He killed a lot of people, and that was before Klaus compelled him to shut off his emotions. Klaus was trying to make hybrids -- he wanted to make an army of them, but something wasn't working. The hybrids were going rabid. Turns out, when the hybrids are in transition, they need to drink my blood in order to turn completely without going rabid."
"So do you think that's what he's going to do here? Try to make some hybrid army? Because, Tyler's the only werewolf that I know of around here. It'd be a really small army."
She shook her head, "Like an army of one. Plus, what does it mean - going rabid?"
Caroline was not only confused, but concerned because this was now looking to involve her best friend and her boyfriend.
"Going rabid is kind of like using all control. No feelings or emotions just -- kill. All the time."
She looked over at Tyler and tried to keep the truth off her face. She knew she wasn't a great liar, but she had to at least try. She shrugged. "Don't ask me to figure out how Klaus's brain works, but I do know this much -- he doesn't like being alone, or being the only one of his kind. Which technically, here he is. If he can have a companion who's sired to him, he doesn't have to worry about being alone."
"Sired? That sounds sort of Anne Rice-ish," Caroline interjected.
"Besides, if something happens, if he kills anyone they'll just come back. He's kind of ... just going to waste people's time with any of his murder-crazy behavior."
When she heard Caroline's voice, she took a few steps forward into the doorway and gave her a smile. "Hey. How'd it go with your boss?"

Yeah, Elena. Time to not lie to your best friend.

This wasn't exactly good news.
