What I'm up to!

I got many things done today!

The first of which was doing (almost) more laundry than I could lift. While loading my clothes into the washers, I overheard a woman telling her friend about "those white people and how they like to go fishing, and eat the fish right next to the stream or the pond or whatever", and continued on to describe to her friend how this leads to diarrhea and tape worms. 0_o

I then went off to rehearsal for "Working Title: Silent Night", which is a play I am helping to workshop which focuses on the Christmas Truce of World War I. So far I'm playing two characters. The first and primary character is Lieutenant Reginald Jeffries. He's the commanding officer for the other characters in the show. The character is based off of improvisational work I did in an earlier rehearsal period. The playwright took ideas from what I spitballed, and has turned it into scenes for an actual show. We wrote letters to people back in England, and journal entries in character, and turned all of this in to the playwright as source material.

My housemate Geoff has been beyond invaluable in this process, as he's a war history buff. So when I told him that I was working on this show, he sat me down with some beers and showed me loads of source material. The man has a veritable library of world war one research and literature. Not to mention books of photography from the era. On top of this, I was assigned "All Quiet on the Western Front" to read as research on the conflict. Sure, it's from the German standpoint, but it's a really fantastic account of the war from the soldier's perspective. I thought I'd read it in high school, and probably did, but when I went to read it through this time I didn't remember much or any of what was in it. So I'm glad to have actually read it now. =D

Basically, the show is a grand old excuse for me to get my British and pompous on. And it is *wonderful*. =D

Not that I need an excuse, mind you. But it never hurts to have one.

My cat Cheshire is jealous of my housemate Geoff's girlfriend Ester. I should really say Geoff's cat is jealous of Ester, as Cheshire is really his cat. Anyway. Cheshire was just sitting outside his bedroom door, meowling piteously that she was not the immediate center of Geoff's attention. Poor baby. Cheshire's a little neurotic. Loveable, but neurotic. Really likes people, and likes to be petted and held and loved. But she wants it ALL THE TIME. Even at 2AM.

I'm gonna go see the blossoming cherry trees in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens come May! It's gonna be so pretty! And it's gonna be a damn sight closer than Vassar. Which has my favorite cherry trees in the world, which I will make an effort to visit when they bloom this year. I might do a day trip up to visit them. =D The problem is that I really want to sit under them at night, and I think they might make a fuss about me not being a student and being there late. Feh. I'll bring my old Vassar ID. =D It'd be good to get up there and see the old Alma Mater.

Christ. I was just able to say that and be semi-serious. Now that's hilarious.

People in the New York area who want to go to Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens on May 2nd or 3rd should let me know. It's 12 bucks, but that's totally worth it for the gorgeous blossoms and the amazing way they smell!!!
