Think about it. Somewhere way back when, whoever was in charge decided that it was a bad thing, and over time people adopted that thought. It's sad, really.

I wouldn't say that, you wouldn't believe how many people are pressured to conform to the government's or religion's standards. The fact that you don't seem to have and issue with it is, in my opinion, rather progressive.
