A query.

What opinions do the owners of these devices have regarding the possibility and scope of travel beyond our atmosphere?

Why look outward when there's still so much to learn inward?

Elaborate.

Earth itself is still a mystery; it seems as if you're abandoning it for bigger unknowns.

Perhaps both could be explored? Surely each can teach us about the other.

Actual exploration of the other planets might help on giving an idea of the formation of this one, but there doesn't seem to be another world out there like Earth.

We can hardly see the entire universe from our small planet. We can hardly see inside our own system, nevertheless our own galaxy. It is illogical to believe that Earth is the only planet that supports life in the entire universe.

except in his universe there is no other life-giving planet. zealouspeter January 16 2010, 17:54:51 UTC
I wouldn't quite doubt the chance for life to exist elsewhere, but what sort of life do you expect? It isn't too illogical to think that Earth's conditions have only been met by Earth.

well in HIS universe, there's like, a bazillion. alwayslogical January 16 2010, 18:00:43 UTC
I do not know what to expect; I would most likely start small (single-celled organisms, or bacteria) and hope for more.

you know they're out there! go get 'em. zealouspeter January 16 2010, 18:02:57 UTC
And you would keep looking until something of the same level as humanity appeared?

Admirable. [small pause, as if contemplating.]

If you were given the option of leaving, would you ever come back?

I would be forced to pick one location or the other?

The planets are far enough away that you may have to.

alwayslogical January 16 2010, 18:14:24 UTC
I suppose it would depend on the alternative location.

Whether it be ship, planet or [- pause -] station?

I would not mind living on a ship, provided it gave me all the necessary amenities.
