Happy New Year everyone. I hope your parties are swell. I'm staying in but I can hear my neighbors having a hell of a time.

Out of curiosity, how many people plan to have and keep New Year's resolutions?

Mine is to get more involved. I feel as if I haven't done anything worthwhile with my life so it's time to change that.

Don't see the point of them. Most are broken within a month, anyway, from what I've seen.

Why don't you try it out and show us how it's done, Kovacs?

Don't know anyone interested in following my example. Might be hope for humanity yet.

I don't know. You seem like a man of your word to me.

Being a man of my word and being a good example are two different things.

Not when the thing you're supposed to be a good example of is keeping your word.

Don't have any promises to make to myself.

That can be a good thing or a bad one.

What do you think it is?

It depends on you. If it's that you're happy with yourself and don't see the need to change anything then that's good. If it's that you don't think you can change the things that you want to then I guess that's bad.

Neither of those are the case.

Don't have anything to promise to myself. Not interested in promising things to myself. Promises are for other people.

All right, I get it, man, no need to underline at me.

[smiles faintly to himself, amused, before writing]

What about emphasis scares you, Daniel?

I'm not scared of it.
