F-List

So, I've barely had any time to spend on LJ.  Work day's are busy and I don't have a home PC.  If I'm to continue enjoying digital space here on LJ, I've decided that it's time to narrow down my friends' list to only include people I know personally or have known online for many years.

I'm turning into someone who much prefers staying in touch one-on-one or in looped emails with a small group of friends, through calls and IMs, and even text messages, but if LJ is still the best way to stay in touch with some of my friends, I want to at least feel comfortable writing here about myself.

Once upon a time I used LJ as a way to stay in touch with people, and eventually to blab too personally about myself.  Some recent experiences here have led me to the conclusion that this environment is best used as a way to discuss contemporary issues, pop culture, share somewhat impersonal anecdotes, etc.  I'd prefer not to use it as a primary way to stay in touch with friends.  However, if I am going to use it all, it's because of those friendships.  I no longer feel comfortable sharing more personal stories about myself  with so many people.

I'm sure much of this has to do with my job.  It became necessary to sign-up with MySpace, and necessary now to sign-up with Facebook.  I have to become familiar with applications I have *no* desire to use personally, but need to understand for my work.  And though I do enjoy message boards, blogs, emailing, etc. (no enemy of technology or its advancements, am I), I don't want to spend so much of my social time using social networks.  That said, I don't want to abandon LJ altogether, since I belong to at least one beloved community here.  And I know this is still, for many reasons, the best way to find out what many of you are up to.  And I'll try to be less mum than I've been.

My apologies to anyone who feels hurt by this decision.
