Around noon, on the days we found ourselves in the hotel at that hour, housekeeping would come to clean our room. She and I would pull ourselves off the bed, arm in arm out to the hallway, where an open window looked out over the street and let in the heat.
She explained to me, my arms wrapped around her waist, how you could tell who the tourists were, because they walked around in their bathing suits all day. I smiled. I never would have noticed something like that on my own.
She wrapped her hand in mine, I touched her arm. I could have spent the rest of the day like that.
"Listo," the woman cleaning our room alerted us. They cleaned up very fast -- this was my biggest complaint.
