First day working from home involved a phone call informing me that senior leadership are putting pressure on all line managers to furlough as many staff as possible and still keep the business running. They have also revealed that even with high rates of furlough, previously money mismanagement and general incompetency from SLT could mean that the company has to close certain parts of the business and fire us. My department is one of those.
I think this is why they sent us to work from home. Squeezed all the essential work out of us, put us in danger by keeping us going in until that was finished, now they're going to get rid of us.
Which is a depressing start to the week. I am the primary earner in my household and even if I'm furloughed, we will be in a tight financial situation. If I lose my job and can't find another (in the middle of a pandemic), JJ and I will really struggle to keep our house and pay the bills, even with the various schemes banks are doing.
The absolute worst part is that I find out day by day whether I will working the next day, furloughed or lose my job. Each day via email. I can't even imagine how that is going to feel after a few days.
I am going to go and find ice-cream because it's either icecream or a meltdown.
