Courtside pt 2

Feb 13, 2006 09:15

So I defended my dancing title. And I sat courtside again during Sundays game. The story of that is below (may also appear on getbucketsbrigade.com).

Perks of the Game
By Joe Sosnoff
Besides the season ticket, there are occasionally perks (no pun intended) of belonging to the fan section generously started by Ricky D and continued by Wyc Grousbeck. Last night, thanks to the blizzard was one of those perks. As you can imagine the Garden was fairly empty last night with only 4 brave members of Brigade/Perkolators in attendance. Wyc being the greatest owner in Sports and a big fan of the Brigade invited the 4 of us down to sit courtside (seats 6-10 to be exact) only a few seats past where Wyc himself was sitting.
Now sitting courtside is unbelievable. The game is ten times faster, the players are ten times bigger and the whole experience is 100 times more intense. To add to the greatness of our seats last night (Thanks Wyc!!!) we had former Celtic player and coach Chris Ford sitting behind right us. Mr. Ford works for the 76ers now and is a super nice guy. After Kevin and I introduced ourselves and said what an honor it was to meet him, he replied that he had seen my dance-off performance at Garden on Friday night. Chris Ford the first NBA player to hit a 3-point shot, witnessed and commented on the bad dancing of yours truly, only in America.
Other highlights of sitting courtside included -
1. Kevin giving Wyc Grousbeck a high five after a Raef Lafrentz dunk.

2. Our interaction with the Plastic Man former UNLV great, Stacey Augmon. He wears wristband with his nickname on them (Plastic Man). We (Kevin, Adam, Adam’s little brother and myself) noticed that when his team shot free throws, Plastic Man would sneak down to the bottom of the 3-point line and try to steal a rebound that way. Delonte also noticed this and he and Augmon started to jostle for position. Kevin said to Plastic, “Hey Plastic Man, you’re up to your old tricks, stop trying to cheat” to which I added, “Yeah Plastic you’re cheating like at UNLV’. Stacy Augmon turns to us and says “Why do you think we always won?’ and with that sprints past Delonte towards the hoop.

3. Kevin asked Chris Ford (who was sitting with scouts from the Nets and someone else I think) how come Paul Pierce doesn’t get the calls that other super stars like AI get. Mr. Ford asked Kevin if Pierce doesn’t get calls and one of the scouts chimed in that PP usually ranks in top 3 in FTA. Kevin said he thinks still feels PP doesn’t get much respect and Mr. Ford replied Kevin was trying to get Tommy Heinsohn’s job when he retires.

4. We got to see Chris Ford’s NBA championship ring. It was shiny and awesome.

5. Celtics got the 2nd win in a row thanks to the stellar play of Paul, Wally, Raef, Delonte, and Ryan. Ryan had a nice Gomes cheering section.
