Title: The Finer Things
For: drainbamage954
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Luhan/Jongdae
Length: 1k
Summary: Luhan isn't expecting Jongdae to come knocking in the middle of the night.

Luhan’s almost asleep when he hears the doorbell ring through his apartment. It’s obnoxious and echoes in his ears and he groans, rolling to bury his head under his pillow in the hopes that whoever it is will go the fuck away. Silence creeps back in and Luhan sighs in relief, shimmying his way further into his soft, warm comforter.

The doorbell goes off again.

No one he knows is stupid enough to wake him this late on a weeknight. His best friend, Yixing, would rather gnaw off his own fingers one at a time than deal with a cranky almost asleep Luhan - and that’s in his own words. So when Luhan finally rolls out of bed just after the third ring, he’s a little pissed.

His front door is opened with a flourish and every single angry word that had been on the tip of his tongue dissolves at the sight of Jongdae standing there. They’ve only been seeing each other for a little over a month, still stuck in the beginnings of forming boundaries and habits and what is and isn’t alright.

They haven’t gone over this, over what’s acceptable behavior for Jongdae showing up on Luhan’s doorstep after midnight, smelling faintly of alcohol and cheeks a pretty pink. But Luhan can’t say no when Jongdae wedges his way inside, cups Luhan’s face and brings him in for a kiss that’s surprisingly sweet and not as out of control as Luhan had been expecting.

They stumble back into his living room, Jongdae kicking the door shut behind them, body still pushing against Luhan like he can’t get close enough.

“Hey,” Luhan manages to mumble as he gently pries Jongdae away, panting through his mouth because wow that was one hell of a kiss. “Hey,” he repeats in a whisper, smiling at his boyfriend. Luhan’s thumbs trace along the curves of Jongdae’s jaw, fingers pressed to the back of his neck to keep him close, look in his eyes to find those flecks of lighter brown he’s always loved. “What is this?” Luhan asks quietly. “What are you doing?”

Jongdae looks unsure, swallowing and licking his lips before answering. “I wanted to come see you, but I didn’t know if I could,” he begins, hands gripped tight to Luhan’s waist, fabric bunched in his fingers. “Is this - is this alright?”

Jongdae’s gaze keeps darting between Luhan’s mouth and his eyes and Luhan decides to answer him with another kiss. “Yes,” he says between kisses. “Yes.”

Reassured, Jongdae is back to smiling and it makes kissing him a little more difficult, but Luhan doesn’t mind. Jongdae is warm and pliant, easily pulled until they’ve managed to make it into the bedroom. Luhan doesn’t know where this is going, but he’s still tired and laying down with a snuggly Jongdae sounds like the best idea he’s had since saying yes when Jongdae asked him out. (Not that Luhan had a choice seeing as Jongdae more or less told him they were together instead of asking; Luhan didn’t feel the need to protest.)

Jongdae falls back onto the bed still holding on to Luhan who ends up on top of him, bouncing lightly on the mattress when he lands. He tries his best not to crush Jongdae, most of his weight on his forearms and knees as he stares down at him. There’s something in Jongdae’s gaze that sets off this possessiveness in Luhan and it’s been there since the day they met. It’s worrisome, but Luhan reasons there’s time to figure that out later. Jongdae is pulling at his shirt with one hand and bringing him down with an elbow behind his neck.

It’s not as rushed, Luhan melting into Jongdae’s embrace as their mouths connect and part, taking in deep breaths before doing it again. Luhan feels like he’ll never get enough of this, like he’ll always want Jongdae against him, the warmth of his body seeping through pores to settle in his bones. His heart is speeding, but his actions are slow, each press of fingertips calculated and carried out with the intent of Jongdae knowing how crazy he makes Luhan feel.

Luhan will never tire of the softness of Jongdae’s mouth, of the way he tastes, but he feels as if he’s neglecting some of his other finer attributes. Like his neck. Luhan trails lips across Jongdae’s jaw, down his throat, listening to the way Jongdae whines. Fingers clutch at the back of his shirt as Jongdae tilts his head so Luhan has more room to move. He envisions Jongdae as a canvas, pristine and white and just waiting for Luhan to splash him with color. Luhan wants to paint him in reds and golds and purples, see skin coated in blues and pinks of his own making.

“Luhan,” Jongdae whispers.

Luhan answers with a light hum, lifting to peer at Jongdae, see him panting for air through kiss swollen lips. He takes a moment to appreciate his great taste in men and then rolls his hips just to see the reaction. Jongdae hisses and it’s obvious they’re both turned on.

“Wait,” Jongdae says, this time louder and with fingers digging into Luhan’s arm. Luhan instantly stills. “I didn’t - I mean -” Jongdae pulls in a deep, calming breath. “This is nice, but I didn’t come here for sex.”

Oh.

Luhan lifts his weight off Jongdae, intending to roll over, but Jongdae grabs him and keeps him still. “That doesn’t mean stop kissing me,” he informs Luhan with a smile. “The kissing is really nice.”

In the end, Luhan figures it’s alright for Jongdae to wake him up for kisses that lead to cuddling under the blankets until they both fall asleep. And yeah, it’s perfectly fine that he hits the snooze button a few too many times and he’s late for work because Jongdae is cute in the morning with his puffy eyes and messy hair as he clings to Luhan for warmth. (It’s also fine when Jongdae finally lets Luhan push the boundaries past kissing and into new territory, but that’s a story for a different time.)
