Heart go boom.

The Boom Boom Satellites blew my mind last night. Again. I've seen them twice now, and they could honestly be my favourite live band ever. I seriously have never heard anything so intense or hardcore anywhere else. Layer upon layer of sound all perfectly mixed together until you don't think it could possibly get any better, and then it does.

They are playing again at the Dublin Castle on Parkway in Camden on July 8th. For just £4. I would go, but I'll be in San Francisco; but I URGE all of you who can get there to go. You couldn't possibly regret it. In case you want to know more about them, read this :

"Boom Boom Satellites have been around for quite a while. Coming up for their third album, the trio has set the scene in techno-jazz-break-rock-hiphop, and have produced sounds the likes of which have never been heard before. This is why in their native Japan they pack arenas and do remixes and soundtracks to video games. But tonight they're playing to the sold-out crowd of the curious and the dedicated.

They start the set with four new songs. They're raucous, much more break and drum'n'bass than their previous work. Older tracks are mixed well while the more ambient overtures are replaced by a more guitar-based sound. Limbo has lead singer Michiyuki Kawashima taking full advantage of his vocoder to wonderful effect and "Your Reality’s A Fantasy, But Your Fantasy Is Killing Me", featuring vocals from Chuck D, starts with horns and samples and gathers momentum like a man coming up on his first pill into a cacophony of fantastically tight and orchestrated rock.

Bassist/DJ/sound-tech Masayuki Katano's ability to handle two sound desks, an Apple Mac and a bass, often at the same time with absolutely no breakdown, just blew me the fuck away. The drummer has a completely expressionless face while the maelstrom that are his arms deliver flawless drum'n'bass and techno beats to a hypnotised floor.

As sweat drips from the genius brow of Katano I'm reminded of the only other time I've felt this way when listening to live music - 1998, squat party in Hackney on an insurmountable amount of drugs, dancing like a demented monkey to the Sound Collective. Like Boom Boom Satellites they made me want to dance like an animal and have violent sex with everyone in the room. But here I was sober.

And by the looks of it the crowd agrees, melting the normally staunch English constitution of 'live music = no dance'. The venue disintegrates into a dance club. And I could do nothing but join in.

When the set is over no one wants them to go, and in accordance with all things right and sane they demand more. So the Satellites forget the usual protocol and do an encore, which is as fast and furious as the entire set. I can say no more. These guys rock like bastards."

The support band were a terrible French band called "I Love UFO". The lead singer crashed into me and called me a motherfucker though, so that was pretty cool.

This is getting to me. You know what I'm talking about. I'm not very good at it, and I'm sorry for that.
