CHARACTER NAME: Kristoph Gavin
SERIES: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

WISHLIST: N
PERSONALITY: Outwardly, Kristoph is very calm and level-headed, kind and with a subtle sense of humor, he always seems to be smiling or just one step away from it. He is very elegant and his speech is measured and articulate. Still, he has an almost intimidating air about him and can be a fierce opponent. A perfectionist above all things, he is very meticulous in everything he does, and everything he owns must be the best that can be had. To those that don't know him, Kristoph is a perfect, blindingly intelligent gentleman, if a little vain.
To those that get close enough to see the “real” him (and they are very few, his “friends” only ever see Kristoph as he wants them to), Kristoph can seem monstrous. Controlling, manipulative, and sometimes just cruel, he is a near psychopath. Once he begins to loose control of a situation, he rapidly loses his composure and drops his “mask of sanity”, dissolving into a callous, twitchy, and easily provoked beast. Kristoph is not only a murderer, but is also completely without remorse for his killings.
He is also not nearly as perfect as he would like others to think. Kristoph is very vengeful, and is prone to making simple mistakes when angered. His own morals are questionable, and Kristoph is concerned about himself above all others.
His brother, Klavier, is more important to him than he lets on. Without Klavier, Kristoph would most likely be without the shreds of sanity he has. This bond is not something often spoken of between the two, but it's apparent that the two relied very deeply on each other, and Kristoph kept his younger brother right where he belonged- under his thumb.
TIMELINE: Post GS4, after his second sentencing
BACKGROUND: Kristoph built a reputation for himself as a defense attorney, but when the famous magician Zak Gramarye was arrested for the murder of his mentor, Kristoph saw it as his opportunity to truly make a name for himself. He secured the case, even going to the lengths of commissioning a forged piece of evidence from the forging prodigy Vera Misham.
However, Zak fired him after Kristoph lost against him in a game of poker. Incensed by the outright rejection and at being replaced by Phoenix Wright, Kristoph planned to exact his revenge by giving the forged evidence to Wright. After tipping off his brother, Prosecutor Klavier Gavin, the night before the trial, everything went as planned and Wright was caught with the forged evidence.
Mostly, that is. Instead of being sentenced to death as she should have, Zak simply vanished from the courtroom. It was the first in many things that would go wrong for the defense attorney. After an atroquinine-poisoned stamp failed to reach its target, and a bottle of nail polish laced with the same deadly poison failed to dispatch the only girl who knew who the real person to commission the forged evidence, Kristoph was left to keep a close eye on not only the Mishams, but everyone involved in the trial, lest Zak reappear and tell everyone that Kristoph was originally to be his attorney (thus linking him to the forged evidence). During these seven years, Kristoph befriended and even defended Phoenix against the allegations of forgery.
And then Zak reappeared. Kristoph murdered him and attempted to frame Phonix for the killing, but the plan fell through and he walked right into Phoenix's trap when he agreed to let his young assistant, Apollo, defend him. Phoenix coached Apollo through the case, and Kristoph was found guilty of the murder.
So he sat in Solitary Confinement Cell 13, keeping to himself in a mildly comfortable cell that resembled not so much a prison chamber, but a library, awaiting his appeals.
...until one day, when his poisoned stamp finally did take a life, and the web that he had sat in for so long began to unravel underneath him. Called in as a special witness on the case, and accused of murder in front of (and by) his own brother, Kristoph descended into madness and was able to only laugh when he was sentenced (again) to death.
ABILITIES: He is very good at deceiving people, and when in control of a situation is very meticulous. He is also very personable, and even those that know who he truly is can be taken in by his charms.
